Recent Wage Justice Success Story: A sewing machine operator in a garment factory, who worked 7 days a week, approximately 60 hours a week, Laura was a victim of wage theftÑreceiving less than minimum wage and no overtime. She filed a wage claim with the California labor department and, after more than a year, obtained a judgment of about $28,000 against the corporation that ran the factory. But her fight wasn't over. The owners of the factory changed the corporate name they used for their business, rendering Laura's judgment unenforceable. Laura turned to the Wage Justice Center. We filed a lawsuit to expose the business's fraudulent attempts to evade paying Laura the wages owed to her. Within months, the defendants agreed to pay all of the wages and most of the penalties owed to Laura.

"I had faith in my lawyers and they had faith in my case," says Laura.

Help support the Wage Justice Center and enjoy an unforgettable week in Kaua'i.
